1. Cape Palliser

Cape Palliser is about two and a half house from Wellington and is home to one of the largest fur seal colonies in the North Island and the iconic Cape Palliser Lighthouse.
2. Kapiti Island

To get to Kapit Island, you drive an hour from Wellington and then take the 20-minute ferry. The whole island is a nature reserve making it the perfect spot to enjoy New Zealand’s unique ecosystem.
3. Days Bay & Eastbourne

Catch the East by West ferry for a beautiful Wellington day trip on the other side of the harbour. Enjoy a coffee at one of the cafes, take a walk on the beach or hire a bike to explore the coast.
4. Matiu (Somes Island)

Matiu (Somes Island) is a predator-free scientific reserve. You get there by catching the East by West Ferry and once you arrive there is a range of walks you can enjoy.
5. Red Rocks Reserve

Visit Red Rocks Reserve on Sunday when it only open to walkers and mountain bikers. The flat 8km walk around the coast will provide you with a stunning view of the Cook Strait as you wind your want through the spectacular red rock.
